We've just welcomed 3 piglets into our ever expanding managerie. They are in addition to our 4 rescued ex-battery hens, a rescued kitty (best mouser around) and 2 westies (and yes one of those is also a rescue), oh and I've taken on looking after the neighbours horse. We live in cotes d'armor in Brittany and would love to hear your tips and suggestions. We're currently living on a building site ... Hamish was again a happy pig I put him in with them last week and guess what.... Mangalitza crosses but all beautifully striped like Onslo their dad. We have crosses already and they have the most beautiful curly coats. Some black and some brindle coloured. Full grown the four we have are quite small but incredibly solid and carry the Swallowbelly traits and looks, particularly in the face with the white circles around the eyes. Does anybody know if outdoor wintering in cold climes (im in scotland), affects weight gain as my mangalitzas weiners, born in October, are only about half the size i was hoping for.

They are fed enough and, are healthy and full of energy, the only thing i can think of is that the winter cold has turned the weight gain into survival and heat conservation.

Any theorys on this.

My very fertile red has just delivered her latest litter of 8 healthy mixed piglets.

All are well and has taken us a bit by suprise as shes only a smallish example of a red, herself, so 8 is some going.
