Hi All, i'm a newbie not only to this site and to being a pig owner, but also to owning a Mangalitza. We've just welcomed 3 piglets into our ever expanding managerie. They are in addition to our 4 rescued ex-battery hens, a rescued kitty (best mouser around) and 2 westies (and yes one of those is also a rescue), oh and I've taken on looking after the neighbours horse. We live in cotes d'armor in Brittany and would love to hear your tips and suggestions. We're currently living on a building site ...

We had a beautiful litter born over the weekend. Mangalitza crosses but all beautifully striped like Onslo their dad.

We have crosses already and they have the most beautiful curly coats. Some black and some brindle coloured. Full grown the four we have are quite small but incredibly solid and carry the Swallowbelly traits and looks, particularly in the face with the white circles around the eyes.

We lost one during last night. It was expected though. It was born dead and I brought ...

Hi,

Does anybody know if outdoor wintering in cold climes (im in scotland), affects weight gain as my mangalitzas weiners, born in October, are only about half the size i was hoping for.

They are fed enough and, are healthy and full of energy, the only thing i can think of is that the winter cold has turned the weight gain into survival and heat conservation.

Any theorys on this.

I had a lady contact me with a view to what she could do with the Mangaltiza hair. I told her the only idea so far that the forum had come up with was for fishing flies.

She suggested that it might be suitable for rug making.

Anyone out there willing to give it a try? It sound promising, she was enthusisastic, but who in our communtiy is arty and skilled?

Let us know!

Hi All

I have just aquires 3 tamworth sows that i intend to breed with my red boar.

I think the cross will make a fantastic meat pig. I know some of you have tried this cross.

What colour boar did you use?

What was the end result like?

Have you eaten any yet?

By the way i have managed to get a red mangalitza sow, so old hamish is in his element

We have a new member Heath - Welcome Heath - our New Year Member!

I am guessing you are from America? Please tell us about your farm and your life. I knew there were Mangalitzas in America because one or two of the recipes I sourced for the forum come from restaurants in New York.

What Mangalitzas do you keep? How long have you been keeping them?

Here he is - yes it's Wonky! http://www.merrylegsfalabellas.com/Not%20another%20Pig/ He settled in really well and then it started! - he escapes sometimes 20 times a day - he has no respect for the electric fence at all (mains!) and we have 4 strands now right down to the ground. When he pushes under it he squeaks as he's being shocked but just carries on - its hysterical! - beyond the electric fence is stock fencing (sheep net) and he squirms under that as well - despite numerous boulders ...
